(13th December 2019)
Our fourth year, when the Lichfield U3A music groups join together to Busk outside the front of the now closed, Marks & Spencer's shop, in the Three Spire's Shopping complex, in Lichfield.
It's always a bit hit and miss with the weather in early December and chooseing to play on Friday the 13th was possibly pushing our luck BUT once again nature was good to us. Cold - yes. Dry -yes
Between 10:00 and 4:00 groups rotated and merged to provide a good range of festive music. Our thanks to members of the groups below as well as friends and family who supported us on the day:
As usual it was great fun seeing everyone singing as they walked around the Shopping area, with many stopping to join in or just sit and listen for a while.
This year something really special happened in the middle of our day. For some time a very troubled lady called Michelle, had selected that area on the shopping precinct to call home as she slept rough on the streets of Lichfield.
Not long, prior to the 13th December, she had been brutally attacked by a group of young people. As we played she started off shouting as was her style, but as the day wore on she settled and seemed to be listening from her position opposite to the various groups busking for us.
The Folk Musicians were on when she wandered over and emptied the intire contents of her begging bowl in to the St Giles buckets we had. Not long after she wandered off.
Every one we told about this got quite emotional and the story eventually made the front page of the Express and Star. Good to know the true meaning of Christmas still holds true for even the most unfortunate in our community.
As usual Lichfield shoppers did us proud as we once again raisied well over a £1000 on the day for the St Giles Hospice.
